They are in order of the pictures above: Wilfred Gibson, Robert Browning, Walter de la Mare, Alphonse de Lamartine, Alexander Pope, Walter Scott, and William Blake. The eighth individual is not identified. The picture of Lamartine is described in pencil on the the reverse side as unfinished. This one presumes because the background has not been added.
Unsigned and undated but presumed to date from the end of the 19th Century.
Size: They vary somewhat in size. The tallest measure 17.8 cms or 7 inches. The widest measures 12.7 cms or 5 inches.
Sgraffito is a technique wherein most usually black Indian ink is painted over a couloured ground and then scratched off to create an image. In this case the white is the the ground colour.
Condition. Very Good. all of the images show signs of wear. Some have some slight loss at the corner. The damage is confined to the perifery of the images however. The main body of each remains clean and fresh. on the back of the fourth picture Wilfred Gibson, Robert Browning, Walter de la Mere
