Chamber’s First Drawing Book is designed for the use of a teacher. In the 11 pages of instruction the following is stated: ‘Let each pupil be provided with a slate and a slate-pen cut to a point; also a small piece of sponge wherewith to wipe and clean the slate when necessary ….. A sheet of paper and a softish black-lead pencil, may be adopted in preference to a slate.’ There follow 48 image to be copied. The first three are very basic but thereafter the images represent people, animals, birds, flowers buildings, domestic objects and, at the rear, patterns.

Size: 17. 5 x 11 cms or 7 x 4 1/2 inches.
Condition: The cover is generally worn; the spine has suffered loss and damage. The end papers have darkened . The names of two previous owners are written in ink on the first endpaper. The contents are , but for occasional marks, clean without creases. The top of each page is spotted with what is believe to be ink however.
A rare book. I can find no other currently for sale.
