A set of seven original engravings entitled “Artificier” plus a double sided page of text.

146 images across seven plates illustrate the tools and method used in the manufacture of fireworks.

From the Recueil de Planches Sur Les Sciences, Les Arts Liberaux et Les Arts Mechaniques by Alain Pons; Denis Diderot and Jean Le Rond d’Alembert

Published by Chez Braisson in 1762.

Size: 15 1/2 x 10 inches or 39 x 25.5 cms.

Condition: Near Fine. The plates are slightly tanned at the edges. There are spots of faint foxing across the surface of some. One, plate 5, has had a closed tear, about 2 inches long, that has been neatly repaired using archival tape. Another, plate 7, has had a 3/4 inch tear which has been similarly repaired. There are other small scratches and blemishes across the surface of each, but in the main, the plates remain surprisingly fresh.

An attractive and complete set.
