A Victorian Album Containing a Collection of 29 Seaweed. Samples size:
A collection of 36 seaweed contained in a Victorian album. 29 have been fixed onto paper, cut out and then pasted into the album. 7 have been fixed on to paper and sit loosely within the pages.
The album is not dated but collecting seaweeds was a popular Victorian pursuit. This, the album and the type of paper used dates the album at around 1880.
The names of a few of the specimens are written on the pages.
Size: 24 x 18 cms or 9 1/2 x7 inches.
Condition: Very Good. The green cloth cover of the album is worn and creased. The binding is loose. The plates are clean and fresh. Most of the seaweeds have been stuck onto paper, cut out and then fixed into the book. Others, the seven smaller samples are glued onto scraps. One sample has a stamp that might read Dundee Naturalist’s Society on the reverse. There was once a sticker on the front of this particular sample, now lost.
