An original engraving of a sunflower.

Chrysanthemum: Indicum flore et semine maximum. Plate 371.

From The Phythanthoza Iconographica by Johann Wilhelm Weinmann.

Dated 1735 to 1745.

Size: 39 x 25 cms or 15 1/4 x 10 inches.

Atrributed to engraver Johan Jacob Haid.

Watermarked paper.

Condition: Very Good. The image has been in a frame and is tanned where it met the frame’s edge. It is lightly foxed. There is a pale yellow patch above the leaf to the left; perhaps some bleeding of colour from the flower above. Also a small spot on the left side of the flower that looks like water damage. There is a short closed tear along the top edge and a strip of paper attached to the left hand side of the image at the point were it was affixed in the book. A bright, bold and pleasing image. Not known to be on sale elsewhere.
