From an original pencil drawing.
A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book describes the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of pottery.
Published in Paris in 1872.
Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.
This piece, a plate with a cruciform, or cross shaped, design, is decribed as a copy of a Japanese form. The heart shaped landscapes work well. The vigourous lines that frame these patterns enhance the affect and break the monotony of the olive ground.
Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface is marked by one or two pale spots. The edges are slightly browned. There is a dark mark to the bottom right of the coloured part of the piece.
