Eight hand coloured lithographs from a French dictionary featuring a peacock, a butterfly, a monitor lizard, jellyfish, a frigate bird, a magpie, various plants including frangipani and anemone, two kinds of magpie, beetles, a caterpillar, a petrel and some clam shells.

From Le Dictionnaire Pittoresque d’Histoire Naturelle by Felix-Edouard Guerin-Meneville.

Published in Paris 1834-39.

The engravings are by August Demenil, du Casse, Joh. Baptist Pfitzer and Alolph Fries.

Size: 29 x 18 cms or 11 3/8 x 7 inches.

Condition: Near Fine. There are a few marks across the surface of the prints. The edges are slightly browned with some occassional light foxing. They are otherwise clean and fresh. There are small holes on the edges of the plates edge where thread once passed through. The paper upon which two of the prints is printed is of a slightly different quality from that of the other six.
