Rouen Faïence.

An earthenware plate decorated with flowers and garlands.

A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book describes the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of ceramic.

Published in Paris in 1872.

Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.

The author suggests that the decoration of this plates, which contains something of the Japanese, could well be attributed to another place of manufacture; but that the piece that served as the model for this drawing showed in more than one way that it was from Rouen.

Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface is faintly foxed and browned at the edges. There is a small dark spot to the right of the coloured part of the image and a few other marks across the surface

A lovely piece for framing perhaps in combination with others.
