Faïence from Rouen
A pitcher for cider.
A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book described the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind o pottery.
Published in Paris in 1872.
Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms.
A pitcher for cider with a tin fitting. It has garlands of flowers on the front above the jug’s belly and on either side white flowers. In the opinion of the author their winding pattern lightens the piece.
Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface is faintly browned at the edges. A dent in the white surround to the right of the jug has been strengthened from the reverse usng a patch of paper and archival tape. There is a small dark spot on the white surface.
A lovely piece for framing perhaps in combination with others.
