Faïence from Rouen

An earthenware cruette holder.

A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book described the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of ceramic.

Published in Paris in 1872.

Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.

According to the author and infinate variety of these items were produced by the Rouen factories; that is an infinite variety of decorations were applied. This last, being of the modest form that is common to all cruet holders, has in its simplicity and an attraction and good taste that is common to these ornaments.

Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface has browned at the edges. There is a very small and faint blue mark at the top of the coloured part of the print and a thin line at the bottom right hand corner which is a printer’s mark.

A lovely piece for framing perhaps in combination with others.
