Five Antique Steel Engravings (1830s) From a French Dictionary Featuring Varieties of Beetle. Engraved by August Demenil. 28. X 18 cms.
5 hand coloured lithograph from a French dictionary featuring various kinds of beetle.
From Felix-Edouard Guerin-Meneville’s DictionnairePittoresque d’Histoire Naturelle.
Engraved by August Dumenil.
Date: 1834-39.
Size: 28.5 x 18cms or 11 3/8 x 7 inches. There is an additional centimetre of paper on the right hand side of the prints (slightly torn) that I have left in place since it might be useful if the prints are to be framed.
Condition: Near Fine. There are a few marks across the surface of the five prints that have to do with age; browning and light foxing. Also a black mark at the base of one prints. They are otherwise clean and fresh. The tears on the paper at the edge have been repaired from the reverse side using archival tape. There are small holes at this edge where thread once passed through.
