Impatiens cape sis. La balsamine du Cap.

The spotted touch-me-not or orange jewel weed is native to North America.

An original hand coloured copper plate engraving on laid paper.

Plate number 121.

From the Histoire Universelle du Regne Vegetal by Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1774-1780).

Printed between 1774 and 1780.

Size: 47.5 x 29 cms or 18 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches.

Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) was a French physician, lawyer and passionate naturalist. He produced some of the finest illustrated works on natural history of the period.

Condition: Very Good. There are a few dark marks across the surface of the image and it’s white surround. It is otherwise clean. The number of the plate has been written by hand in the top right hand corner. There are two strips of paper fixed to the reverse side that, as far as I can tell, serve no purpose.
