Lobelia triquetra. Linn.La Lobel d’Affrique.

The lobelia has is origins in the Cape of Good Hope.

An original hand coloured copper plate engraving on laid paper.

Plate number 114.

From the Histoire Universelle du Regne Vegetal by Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1774-1780).

Printed between 1774 and 1780.

Size: 47.5 x 29 cms or 18 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches.

Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) was a French physician, lawyer and passionate naturalist. He produced some of the finest illustrated works on natural history of the period.

Condition: Very Good. There is a dark spot at the bottom left hand corner of the white surround and a few other dark marks scattered across the surface of the image. The number of the plate has been written in pencil. It is otherwise clean. There are two strips of paper fixed to the reverse side that, as far as I can tell, serve no purpose.
