Nevers? Faïence.
A patriotic earthenware plate attributed to Nevers.
A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book described the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of pottery.
Published in Paris in 1872.
Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.
This plate was produced in 1789 at the beginning of The French Revolution. It is quite rare amongst patriotic plates. The author considers the design to to be good; but it is poorly executed and so detrimental to the general effect.
Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface has browned at the edges. There is some faint foxing across the surface. No other significant marks.
A lovely piece for framing perhaps in combination with others.
