Nevers Faïence.
An eartheware plate decorated with emblems.
From an original drawing.
A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book described the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of ceramic.
Published in Paris in 1872.
Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.
The author states that a guitar, an oboe and a tamourine decorate this pastoral themed plate. They are held together by a blue ribbon that is knotted at the top and which wreathes through yellow fruits. Hyacinth flowers decorate the border.
Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface has browned at the edges and is very faintly foxed. There is a dark line, a printers mark, on the left hand side of the image.
A lovely piece for framing perhaps in combination with others.
