Limes Laundry in Farnborough, Kent, England. A suggested scheme for the washroom and a suggested scheme for a press room.
Presented by John Hall & Son Ltd of London.
Frank Mather (1868 - 1953) was an American art critic and professor. He was the first modernist (that is post-classical) professor at The Department of Art and Archeology, Princeton University. He also studied in Berlin and at The Ecole des Hautes Etudes in Paris.
The Limes Laundry was founded in 1902. It survived until 1986 when the site was sold for redevelopment. One presumes that the paintings predates the creation of the laundry by a year or so.
Size of paintings : 28.5 x 30.5 cms or 11 1/4 x 15 1/2 inches.
Size of mounts: 45 x 56 cms or 17 5/8 x 22 inches.
Condition. Near Fine. The paintings are in excellent condition. The mounts are grubby and water damaged. They do not lie flat. I removed the images from the mounts in order to clear and flatten them to some degree. I’ve put the images back into the mounts using only a little archival tape so they can be easily removed if preferred.
