Ranunculus Asiaticus. Linn. La Renoncule d’Asie semi-double jaunatre et incarnate.

Also known as buttercup, spearwort and crows foot, the ranunculus is distributed across North and South America and Europe.

An original hand coloured copper plate engraving on laid paper.

Plate number 142.

From the Histoire Universelle du Regne Vegetal by Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1774-1780).

Printed between 1774 and 1780.

Size: 47.5 x 29 cms or 18 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches.

Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) was a French physician, lawyer and passionate naturalist. He produced some of the finest illustrated works on natural history of the period.

Condition: Very Good. The plate is, but for a few very small dark spots scattered across the surface, very clean. The top edge is tanned. There are two strips of paper fixed to the reverse side that, as far as I can tell, serve no purpose.
