A sucriére or sugar shaker.
A chromolithogaph from La Faïence Populaire au XVIIIme Siecle by Mareschal. This book described the shapes, usage, decoration, colour and marks of this kind of pottery.
Published in Paris in 1872.
Size: 26.7 x 17.2 cms or 6 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches.
The author states that these sucrière were originally created in plated metal or silver during the reign of Louis XIV. Some of these Faïance pieces are decorated using the same motifs that ornamented, in relief, those created in silver. Some authors call this the locksmith’s patterns.
Condition: Very Good. The white part of the print’s surface has browned at the edges and is a little creased along the bottom edge. There are a few spots of faint foxing also on the white part of the surface. It is otherwise fresh and clean.
