52 pages with two or three recipes on each sheet plus one page of index the rear.
Recipes include Tutti Frutti Sandwiches, Oyster Cocktails, Snow Top Salad, Sunset Fluff, Turbot with Spanish Sauce, Cup Custards and Chocolate Sauce, Hot Ham Mousse and Stuffed Melon. Basically all that you need to recreate a 1940’s period dinner.
Elizabet Craig started to cook when she was six years old and began collecting recipes from age 12. She declared that the only formal training she had in cookery was a "three months course in Dundee" She began publishing cookery books after the end of World War I and proceeded through World War II and into the 1980s. She began writing in times when food was scarce and rationing was heavily relied upon, and her career ended when the majority of households had a refrigerator and an opportunity to access a much wider variety of foods. This can be observed in her writing as more diverse dishes appear in her later books
Condition: Very Good. The cover is quite worn and broken at the top edge. Someone has put a hot cup down on the front cover and left a ring mark. The whole is quite darkened and marked by use. The pages within are quite clean however. They show no sign of thumbing or use for the purpose of cookery.
A rare book that would make a good gift for someone who enjoys cooking and collecting recipes.
