Three Antique Prints From a French Dictionary. A Squid, a Jellyfish, a Crab, Shells, Insects. Hand coloured Lithographs. Size: 29 x 18 cms.
Three original hand coloured steel engravings from a French dictionary showing a neon flying squid and its parts, a jelly fish, mitre shells and a spider crab.
From Le Dictionnaire Pittoresque d’Histoire Naturelle by Felix-Edouard Guerin-Meneville.
Published in Paris 1834-39.
The engravings are by August Dumenil and du Casse after drawings by Acarie Baron and Adolph Fries.
Size: 29 x 18 cms or 11 3/8 x 7 inches plus an additional centimeter of paper on one side of the images that I have left in place since it might be useful if they are to be framed.
Condition: Near Fine. There are a few marks across the surface of the prints. The edges are very slightly browned. There is a spot of light foxing on the image with the jellyfish. There are small holes on the edges of the plates edge where thread once passed through.
Ideal prints for framing.
