The practise of making toys is promoted at Jennie Wilman’s infant school in Settle, North Yorkshire. She describes in the introduction to the book a jumble box ’wherein the children are encouraged to regularly bring from home all the odds and ends that are discarded as useless - matches, match - boxes, corks, mantle-boxes, egg- shells etc. - these should all find a place and be of use in the toy-making lesson.’ Instructions for the making of 50 toys are given though she stresses that ‘Most of the models described in this volume are the outcome of the child’s own inventive faculty, and in all cases perfect freedom has been allowed, - thus the models, when completed, do not appear in the stereotyped form.’ Each model is described on one page and illustrated on the opposite page.

Condition: Very Good. The covers are slightly worn at the corners and most particularly at the top and the base of the spine. The binding remains secure. There is a crack in the spine opposite the endpaper. The pages within remain fresh. There is a short closed tear on one. There is no jacket.
